Harry Potter and the half blood prince is the 6th of the 8 Harry Potter films. Harry Potter films have been going up and down as if it was riding a roller coaster ride. Some installments despite revisions have been very satisfying and marvelous most esp. to the avid novel readers of J.K. Rowling’s best selling novel saga. Unfortunately, there are installments that are underwhelming or are some what mediocrity despite the very dynamic plot of each novel.

I as a Harry Potter fan would probably be say that the Half Blood Prince belongs to the lower point of the roller coaster and for that I’ll gave the movie a score of 3 out of 5.

The movie gives you the high, which a Harry potter fan would want, at the beginning. The movie has one of the best starting scenes with its superb quality of visual effects. I as a movie viewer always expect that the starting scenes should always be an exciting teaser thus; it must somehow showcase what the viewers should expect as the movie runs and that where the movie had failed. The movie has that superb beginning and that is undoubtedly true. (Who would say that the scene with the death eaters and the bridge is not well crafted?) But! It is also undoubtedly true that the movie failed to sustain the excitement. I felt that the ending did not justify the superb starting scenes. I felt that it lacks the action that should have been there. The order of the Phoenix did not show up at the end and that I think is a mistake for it could have add more action. Moreover the Order is just as important as the death eaters and so they must always be highlighted from the 5th film up until the last film. Also at the negative aspect of the movie, it has been certainly unsatisfying and disappointing for the avid novel readers. Base on my avid novel reader friends, they said that there are vital parts pertaining to the hocruxes and Voldemort that were not shown and most shocking is that certain characters are missing that will soon have a vital part at the next films. Nevertheless, it still went out satisfying for my taste. I think that characterization in the film is a bit different from the other films. Harry was showed as a more playful and happy-go-lucky student but still he has that mysterious side and that I like. Ron and Hermione’s love angle is over exposed in the story, which is the same as how Ginny was portrayed as the always center of SNOGGING and I didn’t like that much. But my favorite is undoubtedly Luna Lovegood’s appearances. Her dreamy voice and weird personality appeals very likely for my taste and so I like the film (LOL)

Summing it up, the movie could have been better if the high that a viewer could have was sustained up until the end and that sticking to the book version is still the best way to do it.
