Pink and Blue

I know that some of you might think that this blog is all about the MMDA for its title is Pink and Blue. But, I’m glad to say that this blog does not have any relation with the MMDA instead this blog will be more informative than that by sharing to you two congenital heart diseases, which are called Pink babies and Blue Babies.

Blue babies are babies born with a heart problem that causes inefficient transfer or flow of oxygen in a body, which causes the skin to look bluish. Most often, blue babies have hearts with holes or leaks at its septum making the oxygen flow inefficient. Blue babies having very distinguishable skin are easily spotted and diagnosed thus; emergencies, treatments and medications could be easily given and called even if the child is born at home by a midwife.

On the other hand, pink babies are babies born with heart problems that do not cause prominent inefficiency in oxygen flow. Enlarged heart and weak pumping heart are one of the possible congenital problems that the pink babies probably have. Pink babies are called such since their skin is as rosy as the skin of normal babies, and that factor just makes their diagnosis a little harder but there are indications of complications. One of the indications that could identify a pink baby from the normal ones is that if the child doesn’t cry the moment he was born. Pink babies are often the not being identified as normal esp. there are cases that a pink baby is not diagnose since the mother gave birth to her child in her house by a relatively less knowledgeable midwife and then the parents were just going to recognized the complications during the later ages of the child.

Knowing this information is very important esp. for the parents since it could cause the lives of their child and also, watching educational and health service shows would help a lot in keeping our lives healthy.
